iFob released: a “wireless Icebreaking Beacon”
February 4th, 2008 | by Justin Nolan |An interesting new app for iPhone/Touch and PC has been released. Using WiFi, the app finds other users also running iFob and helps you meet and interact. You can set a tagline anyone in your local area (same hotspot) can see. Messages can be exchanged, and new frindships can be made. If you leave the app running in the background as a service, it will alert you when when new “iFobs” enter your vicinity.
If it sounds a little strange to you, well… it is. The chances of you running into anyone also running “iFob” seem slim at best, at least until the SDK is out and the app gets the chance at a larger install base. While it’s being dubbed as a virtual “icebreaker”, I see it best suited as a local chat app for friends in class, likened to Pictochat on the DS. Minus the fun doodling.

You can find out more about iFob at it’s website.
