[GUIDE] Official 1.1.3 Jailbreak released (on Installer.app)

January 27th, 2008 | by Justin Nolan |

NOTICE: This article is outdated. Please see the updated article here.

A “proper” 1.1.3 jailbreak is now released, and politics aside, it is indeed more streamlined. It is now fully executed on the iphone/ipod, and correctly distinguishes between the two. You can download the files and follow the guide to manually upgrade/jailbreak here: modiphone mirror. Keep in mind, you must be running 1.1.2 (jailbroken). If you already jailbroke 1.1.3 and want to try this “proper” release, you must restore to 1.1.1, jailbreak, install oktoprep, update to 1.1.2, jailbreak, and then you are ready to go.

And to make your lives even easier, I fully automated the 1.1.3 jailbreak for Installer on our repo! If you are running 1.1.2, this is the complete guide to jailbreak 1.1.3:

1. Add http://www.modiphone.net/repo to your Installer.app sources list.
2. Install “Jailbreak 1.1.3″ under Modiphone.net
3. Make yourself a sandwich and wait while it does it’s thing. Your phone will reboot into 1.1.3 when finished!

Please note that the “Executing script…” phase takes a long time. It is downloading the firmware from Apple, decrypting it, patching it, and installing it. Make sure you have a good wifi connection and plenty of battery life. I would recommend setting auto-lock to NEVER for the duration of the update.

Please leave comments bellow. Enjoy!

Update! The script has been fixed. Sorry for any confusion. Please refresh your sources before trying again. Proper error checking has been added to prevent this from being applied to improper devices (1.1.2 and BSD Subsystem required).

Update 2: The dev-team is now reporting there is a known contacts issue, and is advising to hold off on updating until it is fixed. This will be updated when that is released, along with a patch (if available) for those that already took the plunge.

I’m getting an error when trying to install direction from Installer.app on the iPhone:

    Error
    Main script execution failed!

    I’m running a jailbroken 1.1.2 iPhone

    That should have been *directly
    not direction

The script has been fixed and tested. Jailbreak away!

I need wi-fi to try this??

  10. By Bob on Jan 27, 2008 | Reply

yeah. anyone used it on a iphone with TurboSim?

  11. By Justin Nolan on Jan 27, 2008 | Reply

Aurora, you need an internet connection. The faster the better since the firmware image is 100MB+.
Bob, I have no way to test that.

  12. By Benito on Jan 27, 2008 | Reply

The problem isn’t solved by me..

  13. By Justin Nolan on Jan 27, 2008 | Reply

Benito, is it giving you a Download Error, or Script Execution error? If it is a download error, it is because Installer is trying to use a cached version you downloaded prior to the fix. If this is a common issue, I will rename the zip.

Well I gave it a shot and after the reboot I am in a reboot loop. Apple Logo, black and then Apple Logo. Any ideas?

  15. By Bob on Jan 27, 2008 | Reply

@ScottB: Ahh fuck! i had that once. Connect your phone to the computer and press powerbutton and homebutton at the same time to get into the restoremode on itunes. i had to try several times.

  16. By Bob on Jan 27, 2008 | Reply

If this Jailbreak does not change the Baseband it should work with TurboSim.

  17. By Justin Nolan on Jan 27, 2008 | Reply

ScottB, you can get out of recovery mode using ibrickr. I just had to do it when I jailbroke 1.1.2 before doing this update.

I decided that I had messed around with iPod so much that I wanted a clean start so I am going through the 1.1.1 to 1.1.2 to 1.1.3 process. Good to stay in practice ;)

I recently upgraded my iphone to 1.1.3 by accident and regret it so much. I did restore my iphone back to 1.1.1 but i get a “Incorrect Sim” which is preventing me to upgrade my iphone to activate. Even if i do that *#307# to bypass, and somehow download installer from jailbreakme.com and i upgrade to 1.1.2, it is still the same thing. So, how can i upgrade to 1.1.2 and jailbreak if my phone is not activated?

    Thanks in Advance

umair, I followed the steps here:

    http://www.hackthatphone.com/113/iphone_downgrade_113.html

to restore a 1.1.3 upgrade to 1.1.2 w/ baseband to allow 1.1.2 to work.

If you’re at 1.1.2 w/ the incorrect sim error you can jump to page 3 of that guide (the first 2 pages show you how to go from 1.1.3 to 1.1.2 jailbreak).

    Good luck!

    thanks tkatz..

Will this work even if i have bootloader 4.6? When i do the restorebb and it goes thru the entire process and in the end it states “Error: Failed to download .EEP: Could not verify downloaded image”

Does this mean my phone cannot be downgraded and im stuck with 1.1.3?

  22. By tkatz on Jan 27, 2008 | Reply

    umair,

That may be the case. I have an original iPhone (purchased a few days after release) so it worked fine. I’m not sure how (if possible) to recover from an upgrade to 1.1.3 on a pnone with the newer bootloader. Maybe someone else will have a better answer. Sorry!

OK call me impatient, but this has been stuck on “executing script” for over an hour now. How long should I wait until calling it quits and doing a restore? I thought I had all the other bases covered (BSD version, 1.1.2 Jailbroken, etc).

  24. By mako on Jan 27, 2008 | Reply

I tried this, after 1.5 hrs it failed, went into infinite reboot loop…lost everything and now it’s gonna take an hour to download the image through itunes to restore…gg

  25. By Justin Nolan on Jan 27, 2008 | Reply

If it’s taking longer than it should, it should be safe to reboot your device. If you get stuck in a recovery mode loop, simply run ibrickr.

This issue has nothing to do with the installer implementation, but the nature of the script itself. It completes, but is not able to execute the last reboot command so it never does. The DFU loop is common with all jailbreaks/updates. I get it every time I jailbreak 1.1.2. ibrickr fixes it every time.

  26. By mako on Jan 27, 2008 | Reply

I’ve tried hooking up my ipod and then using ibrickr, nothing. Still in infinite loop

  27. By mako on Jan 27, 2008 | Reply

It doesn’t even see the ipod, the loop only lasts like 10 seconds before it shuts off. Any help would be appreciated.

hey ive updated and bought the 1.1.3 software ( sucker i know ) and basically i want to jailbreak my iPod Touch 16G for the 1st time. Can any 1 tell me, or even better link me a place, on how to get back to 1.1.2 to jailbreak it then go up to 1.1.3 jailbroken. I’ll even go to 1.1.1 -> 1.1.2 -> 1.1.3 jailbreaking all the way, but either way id like to know how.

Thanks for reading, i hope i get a reply.

    # Martin I Was also running 1.1.3 and I did the following… and it looks like this is working…. what you have to do is downgrade to 1.1.1 and downgrade the firmware… The key is that when you do the restore to 1.1.1 you may have to do it a few times.. when you do rename the .ipsw each time you run the restore. Also you need to activate the phone each time you upgrade…

    1. Downgrade to 1.1.1 and firmware
    http://www.hackthatphone.com/113/iphone_downgrade_113.html

    2. Jailbreak 1.1.1 and activate
    http://jailbreakme.com

    3. Upgrade to 1.1.2 FOLLOW the DIRECTIONS in the reedme
    http://conceitedsoftware.com/iphone/1.1.2-jailbreak.zip

    4. ACTIVATE!!!

    5. you should be running a jailbreak 1.1.2
    ACTIVATE!!!

    6. now launch the Installer.app and go through the Official 1.1.3 Jalbreak

DONE It worked for me :)
