1.1.3 Jailbreak released! [UPDATED]
January 24th, 2008 | by Justin Nolan |UPDATE: The jailbreak package is now available for Mac. Download mirror here. See Nate’s site for further details.
I told you it would happen, and here it is. Like the 1.1.2 jailbreak, this is an upgrade hack so it will require you to be running a jailbroken 1.1.1 or 1.1.2. If you are already on 1.1.3, see our simple downgrade guide here.
Here are the instructions, as per Nate’s blog:
- Start with a 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 jailbroken phone with Installer.app installed.
- Plug in your phone via USB to your computer.
- Download, extract, and run iBrickr Special 1.1.3 jailbreak edition (ibrickr.exe in the archive).
- iBrickr will determine what firmware you are running on your phone and make sure you can run the update.
- iBrickr will then guide you through the process of obtaining and modifying the 1.1.3 firmware (make sure to read everything thoroughly).
- iBrickr will upload the new firmware image to your phone. Note that this only puts the file on your phone and does not modify it at all, yet.
- When iBrickr finishes (should take about 10 minutes), it will tell you to go to Installer and install the “1.1.3 soft upgrade” package. Do that.
- When the installer finishes (this should take another 10-15 minutes), your phone should reboot with a fresh activated 1.1.3 firmware.
Nate’s site is getting hammered right now, so the ibrickr link above is a mirror on our server. This is currently only for Windows, but Nate is hard and work and promises a Mac version soon. We’ll keep you posted as things develop, so stay tuned.
IMPORTANT: Either restore to 1.1.1 or uninstall all your apps in Installer! The apps will get deleted, but Installer will still think they are there. You will not be able to uninstall or reinstall those apps! Remove them before upgrading to 1.1.3.

these “dev team” “elite team” guys are a bunch of DOS’ers maliciously attacking Nate’s site
information wants to be free, Nate’s got every right to speak his mind according to the 1st amendment in the US and/or as per rational ethical freedoms which should be understood worldwide

Bleep! Only for the iphone? That sucks! Nate should have had the balls to release both!

yeah im having the same problem LAAAME

@5: Do you understand the difference between “freedom to” and “ought to”? Should we all join the KK because we have the freedom to?
Nate’s 1st Amendment right to speak (which doesn’t address copyright law anyway) is not the issue here; the dev team is saying he “shouldn’t have,” which requires a more rational response than, “But I can.”

Mirrors are good, I also translated the instructions to German and I also uploaded the files to Rapidshare.com
Here are the German instructions located: http://mrnase.de/iphone-ipod-touch-1.1.3-firmware-jailbreak-deutsch/

@8, understood, we shouldn’t but we can, nate is free to violate the law if he chooses, I highly doubt nervegas is an IP law professor anyway. Determination of can/should/ought to is up to the individual not up to you or some elite team to decide for nate himself.

the problem at han here is that he has bits of copyright in his ibricker as well as the fac that he wont release the ipod touch because then he’ll be in deep dough…it comes with the $20 apps. either that or its firware related

Does this require a re-activation of the phone? I do not have a GSM carrier at the moment, so cannot activate the phone.
Any help? Many thanks.
By phillyvu on Jan 24, 2008 | Reply
Nevermind. I read the instructions, and it’s an upgrade so I can activate in a lower firmware.
Having same issues of iBrickr stating my phone is not jailbroken. odd

absolutely easy upgrade to 1.1.3, using t-mobile in the US. Re-installing a lot of apps now like BSD Subsystem and I don’t think EDGE is working right now… we’ll see. So far so good though.

OUCH. I went through the procedure and my iPhone is now “in recovery mode.” That’ll learn me to go on the bleeding edge.
By Justin Nolan on Jan 25, 2008 | Reply
You can get it out of recovery mode using iphuc. Worst case scenario, restore to 1.1.1 in iTunes and try again.
By mdavidangst on Jan 26, 2008 | Reply
I think i read somewhere that if you are using Vista, you have to do the iBrickr in Administrator mode. I did it in user mode, and i had to Restore, thus loosing all of my apps and mods.
I be kinda irritated, but life is a too short.
Might try again, who knows…
